ISKE 2025 Special Session on Decision Making under Uncertainty: Emerging Topics and Applications
The 2025 International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Knowledge Engineering (ISKE 2025) is the 20th in a series of ISKE conferences. The conference will be held in Shunde, a beautiful place in southeast of China.
Special issues of SCI indexed journals will be devoted to a strict refereed selection of extended papers presented at ISKE 2025.
Scope and Motivation
Decision making is a daily task that takes into account reasoning and intelligent processes to address various types of risk and uncertainty in which human beings face situations with different alternatives and they have to sort, rank or select the best one(s). Nowadays, the structure of decision making models is complex and has grown because of this complexity leading to decisions made collaboratively by groups of experts ranging from small teams to large-scale panels. Moreover, unavailability data is often mitigated by using a number of assumptions as a means of dealing with uncertainty.
To address uncertainty in decision making problems, different fuzzy methodologies and theories have been proposed in the literature, such as fuzzy sets, fuzzy linguistic approach, intuitionistic fuzzy sets, q-rung orthopair fuzzy sets, hesitant fuzzy sets, hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets, type 2 fuzzy sets, etc., as well as a wide range of tools, operations and decision models have been proposed to cope with decision problems that deal with uncertainty. Nevertheless, the advances and the appearance of new challenges always imply novel mathematical foundations and new decision models that can be applied to different decision fields dealing with uncertainty. In addition to managing uncertainty, modern decision-making frameworks increasingly emphasize fairness and explainability. Fairness ensures that decision outcomes are equitable and unbiased, addressing concerns of discrimination and inequality. Explainability, on the other hand, aims to make decision-making processes transparent and interpretable, enabling stakeholders to understand the rationale behind decisions and fostering trust in intelligent systems.
This invited session aims at providing an opportunity for researchers who work in decision making under uncertainty to discuss and to share their new ideas, original research results and practical experiences.
Potential topics (but not limited) of this special session are as follows:
- Choice, Ranking and Sorting processes in multi-criteria decision making under uncertainty
- Consensus reaching processes in group decision making under uncertainty
- Multi-criteria and group decision making, including large-scale decision problems dealing with uncertainty
- Intelligent Decision Support
- Applications such as, sustainability, engineering evaluation, sensory evaluation, risk and quality assessment, emergency events, recommendations, resource management and transfer, medical diagnosis and so on
- Incorporation of fairness and equity considerations in decision-making frameworks
- Development of explainable models and methodologies for transparent decision-making under uncertainty
